- Ensure your propane cylinder is in-date. The date of the certification is stamped on the cylinder collar. Cylinders are in-date for ten years beyond the specified certification date.
- Routinely inspect cylinders for dents or pitting. Ensure the foot ring securely holds the cylinder straight and upright.
- Make sure your cylinder has a proper shoulder label.
- Cylinders must be upright, secure and well-ventilated during transportation.
- Perform a “soap” test after the cylinder is connected. Simply apply a solution of soap and water to each fitting and valve. Observe for any bubbling, which would indicate a leak.
- Refrain from storing spare cylinders in confined spaces. Heat will cause propane expansion and cylinders will over-pressurize.
