Your Safety Is Why We Show Up

Red Cap Propane Safety & Compliance

Your safety is why we show up every time. At Red Cap Propane, we take pride in delivering safe, reliable propane service across Cambridge, Waterloo Region, and Ontario. When propane is handled properly and equipment is maintained with care, it provides years of dependable, trouble-free service.

Here’s what every Red Cap Propane customer should know.

If You Smell Gas

Propane has no natural odour. Manufacturers add a rotten egg smell to make it easier to detect leaks. If you ever notice that smell, treat it seriously every time.

Here is what to do:

  • Get everyone out of the building, including pets
  • Do not touch any light switches, appliances, or thermostats on your way out
  • Do not use your phone until you are outside
  • Once outside, turn the valve on your propane tank clockwise until it stops
  • Call Red Cap Propane at 1-800-661-2673 or 911
  • Do not re-enter until a professional has cleared the building

If something doesn’t smell right and you think it could be propane, don’t second-guess it and call us right away. We’d always rather come out for a false alarm than have you wait when it matters.

Carbon Monoxide: Know the Signs

When propane burns, it produces carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, which makes it harder to detect than a gas leak. Install CO detectors on each level of your home, test them regularly, and replace them every five years.

If someone at home shows signs of CO poisoning, like headaches, dizziness, or confusion, go outside immediately and call 911.

Keeping Your Equipment in Good Shape

A few simple habits go a long way:

  • Have a licensed technician inspect your furnace, boiler, and water heater every year. Contact us to book a service call.
  • Yellow or orange flames on your propane range mean something needs attention. Call us and we will take a look.
  • Before you dig, landscape, or renovate, call us to confirm the location of your underground propane line.
  • Install propane leak detectors on every level of your home alongside your CO detectors.
  • Never use a propane range or outdoor grill to heat your home.
  • If your equipment looks damaged or corroded, call us before your next delivery.

Getting Ready for Winter

Ontario winters put your propane system to work. A few things to keep in mind before and during the cold months:

  • After snowfall, clear a path to your propane tank so our drivers can reach it for delivery.
  • Keep snow away from your tank, gas lines, regulators, and appliance vents.
  • Use a broom to clear snow from your tank because a shovel can damage the equipment.
  • Make sure your delivery setup is working for you before winter sets in. If you are on will call, keep an eye on your tank level and give us at least three business days notice when you need a fill.

If you ever run out of propane completely, call us right away. We have after-hours emergency service available.

How We Work

Every driver and technician at Red Cap Propane is licensed and trained to handle propane safely. We are also proud members of the Canadian Propane Association. We inspect and maintain our vehicles and equipment regularly, and every delivery follows set procedures.

Before each refill, our drivers conduct a visual inspection of your tank and equipment. If anything requires attention, we will let you know and arrange the appropriate next steps before proceeding.
