Core Fuels History
1972—Paul Core, who had owned and operated Peel Ice and Fuels Ltd. in Brampton, Ontario, with his brother Lionel, moved to Stratford and took over Core Petroleum Ltd., which served the surrounding area. Paul and his wife, Mary Lynn, operated the business for 20 years, growing its offerings and its territory by providing quality products and great service at a fair price.
1992—James and Kevin Core, who had grown up in the family business in the 1980s, opened Core Fuels Ltd and built a shop at 219 Lorne Avenue East to better accommodate the growing business. As local competitors merged with bigger companies, Core Fuels Ltd grew by continuing to offer the same business values.
2002—Scott Skinner was hired as a driver. Scott quickly learned the business and takes over logistics for the company.
2003—Steve Culliton was hired as sales and credit manager. He brought along with him a strong work ethic and a commitment to customer service.
2004—Together with Scott and Steve, the group established Red Cap Propane Ltd, offering bulk propane to the residential, commercial and agricultural sectors. Together with Core Fuels Ltd, the company would eventually expand to include 20 employees and a fleet of 13 trucks, serving customers in Perth, Huron, Wellington, Waterloo, Brant, Oxford and Middlesex Counties.
2009—Red Cap Propane expanded through a partnership with Dave Moore Fuels in Exeter, Ontario, adding Lambton, Middlesex, and Huron Counties to its service area.
2010—Core Fuels Ltd and Red Cap Propane Ltd continued to expand their territory, opening an office in Alma, Ontario. Later in the year, a second Card Lock location was opened at 117 Huron Street in Embro, giving Core Fuels Ltd customers access to a second 24-hour gas and diesel fuelling location.
2011—Core Fuels Ltd purchased the fuel division of S.T. Loveys Ltd, of Hickson, Ontario. We continue to honour Loveys’ commitment to our saying “Quality products and great service at a fair price.”
2014—Core Fuels Ltd expanded the Stratford Card Lock location to include natural gas (CNG), propane and diesel exhaust fluid. Later that year Red Cap Propane installed a bulk loading facility in Bornholm, Ontario.
2017—Core Fuels Ltd installed its own bulk loading facility in Stratford, Ontario, to better supply and serve its customers.
2019—New full service Alma location opens at 6976 Wellington Rd 7, Alma Ontario.
2019—Core Fuels Ltd/Red Cap Propane welcomes Waterloo County Propane to the family!
